Hey there, and thanks for stopping by my blog. My name is Angie and I'm a Licensed Cosmetologist from Martins Ferry, OH (Go Riders!). I've been doing hair for about ten years now, but really it feels like so much longer than that. I grew up watching my dad do hair (yes, he's in the industry, too!) and now I'm incredibly lucky to run my business (Eclectic Hair Studio) within the same four walls he had his salon (Hanover Hair Design). Yep that's me and my dad at Disney World in the early 90's! People ask me all the time if I always knew I wanted to do hair, and the answer is no. When I was really young, I spent a lot of time putting rollers in my grandma's hair (actually just pulling the shit out of her hair...bless her heart) but kinda grew out of it. To be completely honest, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I did the post-secondary program while I was a senior in high school, meaning I attended OUE taking college classes instead of going to HS every day, and just took classes that meant I only had to go to school two days a week. At the end of my senior year I decided I was going to major in education. I woke up about 3 days into my last quarter of my freshman year of college and was like nope, not doing this. I called my dad and said hey, I'm going to get a business degree and then go to Cosmetology School. There was literally no turning back. The only thing I was really passionate about was makeup. I LOVED doing makeup. I would do my friends makeup for school dances and I also did makeup for everyone on my cheerleading squad (yes! I was a cheerleader). I was lucky, and my dad hired me to do makeup for a hair show when I was probably 19 or 20. I absolutely loved it, and I knew I was going to do everything possible to finish that business degree and get through Cosmetology School. Fast forward to 2009 and I graduated from OU with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and I was about half way through Cosmetology School. Yes, I did both schools at the same time. My schedule was insane. No really, I'm going to draw it out because I hate when people say they don't have time. If you're determined, you'll figure it out. Monday - Class at OUE then worked 8 hours in the computer lab. Tuesday - Scott College 9a-4p and OUE 5:30p-11p Wednesday - Scott College 9a-4p and OUE 5:30p-11p Thursday - Scott College 9a-4p and OUE 5:30p-11p Friday - Scott College 9a-4p and some time's I'd work at Outback Saturday - Scott College 8a-3p and some time's I'd work at Outback Sunday - I'd always work a double at Outback I did this for about six months until I completed my bachelors degree because I was hungry and ready to start my career. I felt like I had wasted years in college and I was too old to start Cosmetology school (lol... I started when I was 21). Let's be honest, I was ready to do something I love and make some money...and I was hella over that schedule. I graduated from Scott College of Cosmetology in 2010 and opened Eclectic Hair Studio in 2011. By this time, I was also working as an instructor at SCOC and a few months later became a National Educator with John Paul Mitchell Systems. Education has been a passion of mine since day one. I love to learn and share my knowledge with others. I still hold all of those titles, and have now really found my passion behind the chair as an extension specialist. I'm fortunate to work with an amazing team who help keep the salon up and running when I am at the school or on the road either teaching or taking classes. I absolutely love business and marketing, and I literally love my job every single day. It wasn't easy to get where I am and I've worked SO hard to build my dream clientele and business, but I never take that for granted. Being able to wake up every day and love going to work is an absolute blessing and I could not be happier that I followed my gut and went to Cosmetology School. When I'm not working, you can find me spending time with my two English Bulldogs, Bonnie and Clyde, hanging out with my family and friends, cooking or anywhere there is live music.
